Mayor of the Lockyer Valley Regional Council

AS part of National Youth Week 2008 the Lockyer Valley Regional
Council has moved to give young people in the valley a voice by
establishing a Youth Council in the region.
The launch of the initiative was attended by representatives of
Lockyer District High School, Laidley High School and Faith Lutheran
College as well as community representatives and council members.
Lockyer Valley Regional Council’s Youth and Community Development
Officer Dulce Row
said the aims of the Youth Council were to provide a linkage between
youth and the council.
“The main aim is to provide a youth-driven forum for the purpose of
suggesting ideas, voicing issues or concerns and promoting community
spirit for young people in the region,” Ms Row said.
The structure of the Lockyer Valley Regional Youth Council will be
in such a way so that there is representation of young people from
right across the valley and also most age groups being represented.
Lockyer Valley Regional Council Mayor Steve Jones said the
initiative was an important part of what the new council would be
trying to achieve.
“It’s important that council gains the views of young people because
they are the future of our area and we certainly need to value their
input,” Cr Jones said.
Nominations for the Youth Council will be called in coming weeks
with nomination forms
available from the Gatton and Laidley council offices, Laidley and
Gatton Community Centres and distributed through the high schools.
Released Tuesday April 1 2008

The Corporate Logo
The Lockyer Valley Regional Council Logo is a dynamic and colourful
depiction of the Valley in the shape of the combined Gatton and
Laidley Shire's, with a green fertile valley of growth, the rich
soils, and the blue of the creeks running through the Valley.
The logo captures the essence of the regions rich history built on
the back of our agriculture and farming heritage.
